1. This week my powerpoint presentation is coming along very well, i am now just putting on the finishing touches.

2. This week I plan on adding a voice over, if all goes correctly then during my presentation i might not have to speak, i could play throught hte presntation and add my commentary along with it.

This article was very interesting to me.  We live in a world where technology is booming.  The video game industry is at the highest it has even been. One of the newest most popular virtual reality games is second life.  Second life has taken over many peoples lives, but in a negative way. The reason i feel it is so popular is because, it allows people to live their life, like in a dream, where they can take chances without really any risk.  It allows people to live the prefect life.  Companies are looking at this as a new way of marketing but it really going to work?  I feel its going to be the next big thing and is going to hurt in the long run. Eventually people are going to become so addicted to this game that reality will no longer exist.  As we play this game as a part of the experiential learning, i must say at times it can be addicting because i constantly am exploring the new places and people.  It is almost like we can live life as another person and see who we will turn out.

Do you feel second life will be the next big thing, in the upcoming future?

Virtual Hunting

This video was very interesting, but i not in favor of it.  Yes, hunting is very important to some people and i have nothing against that.  If its your hobby, then fine by it.  but now that they came up with virtual hunting, i personally think its wrong.  Why should people be allowed to kill, live deer from their computer.  Its just weird to me and i just don’t like it.  Of course a lot  of hunters will oppose this and i don’t blame them.  It is sickening in a way.

How are your feelings toward virtual hunting?

After reading this article machinma was a little confusing to me but sounds very interesting.  It pretty much has something to do with machine cinema, and how from video games, movies can be made. From the article this seems to have its advantages and its disadvantages. In the filming indtrustry there is a limit to the control and range of expression and a an advantage is it can be used for mainstreaming, such as telvison and advertising.

Do you think Machinima will one day be more useful in making large films?

This article is very interesting because it is describing space and how it can be used in so many different asepects. I did not realize it but space can be precieved in many differnt ways.  one example i really like is in the introduction. “Our creative endeavors fall into different categories based on how they exist in space and time. If you look at it while standing still, it’s a painting. If you move around it, it’s a sculpture. If you pass it around, it’s a snapshot. If you live in it, it’s architecture.”  this was very interesting to me.  In each one of the tabs it goes trhough space and explains how time, and space can be measured. The article then goes on to explin the diffent aspects of space, how its made where it derives from and how it is used. My favorite part of the artilc eas the acoustics and music. I liked how music devlpoed and progressed as time passed, it was really interesting.

Vitrual Iraq

Virtual iraq was pretty interesting,  it is used for veterans of the war who are suffering from post dramatic stress disorder.  It allows for soldiers to see Iraq again in a virtual form.  I like the quote that says, that to an average person this is merely just a video game, but to a solider it is bringing them back to where they once were.  It allows the soldiers to explain there problems to their therapist.  I think it is a great idea.

This article is pretty cool, because it is something very different.  We are so used to seeing people who write either using a computer or a pad of paper, but not a cell phone.  People in Japan are not only reading books on their phones they are also writing books.  To me alone that is pretty crazy. Another amazing thing is that she wrote 20 pages in two hours, which is part of a 235 page book.  To this is just awesome.  It is showing how technology can bring out new different types of writters.   Most of her love stories are written in first person narrative, but they seem to be selling.  this is an awesome article.

“We Tell Stories”

This is a cool and clever way to get to readers. Over six weeks this six stories will be released to the the reads through the internet.  So if the reader is really into this, he/she will be allowed to get hints and clues throughout the internet. To me it is pretty cool.  With all these clues it will lead up to the seventh story.  So its pretty much one of those types of things that keeps the reader at the edge of their seat but through the internet. I wonder how successful this will be?

“We Tell Stories”

This was not a bad first story.  I like how it was written in the first person narrative.  It was about these two people who meet and  like each other.  The guy asks the girl to go on a date and she agrees.  Then  from there it is nothing but  what is going on through each of their heads.  You hear the girls point of view and how she is excting and getting ready.  Along with the guys point of view.  From this first reading it actually made me want to read more.  I would like to know how the date went on.

What did you think of the first story, did it give you enough to read the second story?

Cross-Platform Storytelling

THis article is very interesting it is telling stories, with real life elements.  By doing this it allows the characters to feel more real.  It is almost like you feel like you know the character personally.  I really enjoy this way of story telling because it makes it much more interesting.  One of my favorite tvshows on HBO Entourage.  Its blog on its site allows you to connect more closely with the character   res, pretty much making you feel like you know them.

Do any of the tv shows you watch have real life element associated with them?

2.  For the rest of this week and next week i intend to do more research and start developing my power point.

3.  My only concerns this week are how much work i will be able to get done this week because of the thanksgiving feast. lol

This article was very interesting.  It is pretty much showing how technology such as social networking sites, youtube and twitter have played huge roles in campaigning.  These new ways adapt to the new generation.  For example almost all teens, young adults use the computer more then anything else throughout there day.  So why not use Youtube to campaign.  It is a very smart idea.  Online campaigning is probably one of the smartest ideas.  It is another way to get through to people other then the television.

This article is really cool.  It is showing once again how technology can help a candidate.  In this article before Obama went to speak, a guy announced to the crowd to to text to this number.  To a crowd of 70,000.  This is such smart marketing especailly for for Obama Campaign.  By texting this number you are helping spread the word to vote.  Not all the 70,000 people will text that number, but a good amount will and this will help spread the word to vote.  Using technology to your advantage.

Would you like to received a text message telling you to vote? Instead of having to remind yourself to.

How Much is YouTube Worth to Obama and McCain?

Now a days it is almost foolish for a person running for a political position to not use Youtube.  YouTube gives you advantage.  One major advantage is the cost. The cost of Youtube is nothing where as airing something on television is very expensive. People tend to go on YouTube more then one time a day, so why not its free and if you are not very popular, it does not hurt to use.  Plus with YouTube you have unlimited airtime allowing you to post a large amount of videos.  It is and easy way to get the word out.  You how Obama and McCain used YouTube to there advantage.

One Lap top Per Child

I think this is an awesome idea.  Technology is advancing so much and the cost is becoming so cheap.  Why not help out a kid who probably has never even heard of a lap top. What is really cool about this is that the laptop is not super advanced but pretty basic.  It can do all your normal web surfing for all your basic needs.  The lap top only cost $188 and when you buy it you are actually buying two, one for a poor child in another country. It is very durable as well.  it can get wet, get dirt on it and even be dropped.  this is a great idea and im looking forward  to seeing the success of this product.

This article is really interesting.   It is pretty much talking about how we as people filter our television to what we want to view.  By doing this were are limiting ourselves.  we are not watching news, but watching only what we prefer,where as it would be better to view a wide range of things. Filtering is playing a big role in todays society.  People are not watching anything but what they prefer.  There are so many systems out there that allow us to do so much.  For example Tivo.  I am a person who uses Tivo and i have to say that i think it is great,  it allows me to record all the shows that i prefer. I have total control over my tv.  I can see how this can be a problem in the politcal world.  We are only being exposed to what we want to hear and see.  Instead of hearing everything.

This article is very funny.  With todays technolgy we can almost make anything happen.  In the era where it seems that everyone is taking photos this is jsut great.  Adobe PhotoShop a program that allows you to alter all kinds of images.  I thought it was funny in the article that Laura Horn erased her ex-husband from all their pictures. But in some ways do we rally want to do that. Erase and edit people, and sceneray. To me it feels that it takes away from the picture.  I know a ton of people are using PhotoShop and editing there images but now when we look at a picture hwo will we know if it has or hasnt been altered?  I like how photoshop can change a black and white photo to a colored photo in that aspect, but with memories i dont like how they can be changed.  I memory is something that stays with you forever, how are you going ot remeber it if you alter it.  For example the wedding, i thought it was funny how Cousin Andy was added. Stuff like that is funny, but who knows what Photoshop, Gimp and other picture editing software will do to our photography/

You know how they say, “A picture is worth a thousands words’, well with photoshop it feels that a picture could be worth a million words because you dont know what is altered.  Do you agree?

“Picturing text”

1)When applying to colleges, before deciding on what Colleges had my major i looked at web pictures of the campus.  I was able to visit some of my top schools, but for my safety schools i did not attend, so i used the internet for some campus tours.  Of course the campus tours online seemed pretty amazing, i kept thinking to myself wow maybe i should attend this school.  It was good until I had my first experience with Mercy College.  The campus tour online made the campus look so amazing.  But when i had the tour i was not impressed at all.  The school looked all old and on the tour they never showed you this one building.  Once i saw that building i was not going to attend this school.  The building was dark and not all the lights worked and that was supposedly the building where most of my classes would be, so i was disappointed.

2)  In a way i think she is like talking down to students. I do agree that it is wrong to take pictures for proving diversity it is just wrong for me. But it seems especially in college brochures that these pictures are taken numerous ammounts throughout the brochure.  I feel that if the college does not take this picture then there school would be looked at as not culturally diverse.   I feel like colleges force people of different races to sit in a group with each other and pose.  That always has me wondering, if they ask people to sit certain ways and pose, when creating the brochure. By mulniplulating a photo is even more wrong in my eyes, because its like forcing people to sit with each other, even when they probably don’t even know each other.   I think digital manipulation of photos is more reprehensible  because they people in the picture unaware of what is being done, without there consent.

3) In a way i find it acceptable to “construct” images of diversity for promotional materials because that is the kind of world we live in.  People complain when diversity is not shown.  For example when you go to colleges and attend there open house, they always show pictures and explain how diverse there campus is. They make sure to give you the statistics as well.  I do not really see a way in which this will change.  Any professional place  or company is going to have pictures of divesity.  Yes in  a way its wrong because thats not how it is in the real world, but what can you do.  It is done by so many people with images, especially if diversity is not show then they might be considered as a raacist or something.
